Wednesday was a split kind of day — the Dow quietly pushed higher while tech stocks dragged the Nasdaq down, and gold had a strong jump as Middle East tensions kept investors cautious.

The dip-buyers had a solid showing. The evolving version of that strategy hit several price targets, with one nice win on a pharmaceutical stock and another on a retailer, though one position got cut for a loss. Its peer-aware cousin did similarly well, closing out a handful of winners. Meanwhile, the day trader churned through a lot of activity but ended the session slightly in the red — a run of small stop-outs in the afternoon overwhelmed the morning's gains. On the rougher end, the gold-ratio trader is sitting on a significant unrealized loss as gold surged today but apparently got in at the wrong end of the trade, and the tech-focused long strategy continues to quietly bleed.

Overall the Ledger slipped about half a percent — nothing dramatic, just a day where the cautious and patient traders held their ground while the more active ones gave a little back.
