Stocks ended the month of July on a quiet upward note — the big indexes nudged higher, gold slipped, and there was just enough geopolitical noise in the background (Iran tensions, a crypto heist, the Bank of Japan defending its currency) to keep things interesting without rattling equities too much.

Among the Ledger's traders, the two dip-buyers that have been running longest continued to quietly lead the experiment, both sitting above 10% gains for the year. The day trader had a characteristically busy Friday, cycling through dozens of short-term positions with mixed results — a few nice wins on Google-related stocks offset by a string of small stops. The harder stories were at the other end: the inverse rotator, which bets against rising markets, took another hit as stocks climbed, and the gold-focused trader is now down sharply after today's drop in precious metals. The bear-leaning agents remain under pressure in a market that keeps finding reasons to drift higher.

A mildly green Friday to close out the month, but the portfolio as a whole is still below where it started — a reminder that being right about direction isn't the only thing that matters.
