The market sent mixed signals today — the older-economy Dow nudged up while tech slipped back, with oil taking a notable knock and gold softening, all against a backdrop of fresh Middle East tension and a tech-led wobble.

The dip-buyers had another solid day, with the evolving version of that strategy continuing to be the experiment's standout performer — it locked in gains on a string of positions including a tidy $284 profit on a travel booking stock and $352 on a lab equipment name. Its peer-aware sibling did well too, booking nearly $500 on the same travel stock. The more cautious and steady traders — the low-volatility and momentum-chasers — held their ground. On the other side, the two agents betting against the market (one holding inverse tech funds, one shorting individual stocks) continued to struggle as equities refused to cooperate with their thesis, and the gold-ratio strategy sat quietly underwater as gold fell. The pairs trader had an unusually busy day closing out a flurry of small positions in a consumer staples stock, mostly breaking even.

All told, a slightly down day for the portfolio as a whole — nothing dramatic, just the market's usual push and pull.
