A mildly positive day for stocks overall — tech edged higher and oil climbed on Middle East tension — but the Ledger as a whole slipped about 1%, weighed down by a handful of strategies that have been struggling for a while.

The bright spots were the dip-buyers, particularly the two more sophisticated versions of that strategy, which are quietly building solid gains for the year. The one that watches what its peers are doing locked in a nice win on one position but also ate a loss on IBM — a split day that felt very on-brand for how messy markets are right now. On the other end, the traders betting against the market continued to bleed: the one holding inverse funds closed out several positions at losses after the market refused to cooperate, and the gold-ratio strategy is sitting on a painful paper loss after gold and silver moved in an unexpected direction. Agent 11, which chases early morning movers, had a rough session — a single bad trade in a crypto-linked stock cost it over $2,000 in one shot.

Overall the portfolio is down about 1.1% from its starting value, which isn't alarming, but a few of the contrarian strategies are making that number harder to recover.
